Parents may request league approval to play up one age group during the registration process. We recommend that players play in their respective age group unless they could compete for an all-star position in the next age group.

For specific Age Group information or general assistance, please click on the Contacts menu to contact your age group director.

Players are assigned to teams by draft starting at 6u as a requirement to utilize Forsyth County facilities.  Therefore,  we are unable to honor requests to play with friends or coaches and are unable to assign kids to teams based on practice times.

What Does a Rec Baseball Season Look Like?

Pre-season practice begins the week of February 13th. 5U-8U typically practices at Joint Venture Park and 9U-18U practices at Sharon Springs Park. 8U Majors may have practices at Sharon Springs Park, depending on available field space.

Pre-season you can expect to have 1 outdoor practice during the week and 1 outdoor practice on Saturday. Most weekday practices occur Monday-Thursday, but a small number of teams may have a Friday practice instead. Teams may also hold an optional indoor practice during the week. By rule, teams may not meet more than 3 times per week.

Practice schedules vary by age group and typically are structured as follows:

  • 5u - 6pm on weekdays for 1 hour and 1 hour on Saturday typically between 9am and 2:30pm for 1 hour
  • 6u - 6pm on weekdays for 1 hour and 90 minutes on Saturday typically between 9am and 2:30pm
  • 7/8u - 6pm or 7:15pm on weekdays for 75 minutes and 90 minutes on Saturday typically between 9am and 2:30pm
  • 9/18u - 6pm or 7:30pm on weekdays for 90 minutes and 90 minutes on Saturday typically between 9am and 2:30pm

The season begins the week of March 13. The home park of 5U-8U is Joint Venture Park and 9U-18U is Sharon Springs Park, but you may also play games at other Forsyth County parks. The season is 12 games followed by a post-season tournament Mid-May. There are typically no games the week of Spring Break, including the Spring Break weekends. You can expect to have 1 game during the week and 1 game on Saturday. Most weekday games occur Monday-Thursday except possibly for make-up games cancelled due to weather. Teams may also hold an optional indoor practice during the week. By rule, teams may not meet more than 3 times per week.

There are typically 2 games per field on a weekday. The earlier game time is 6pm and the later game time is set to immediately follow the first game. You may have either game time. Teams will typically warm-up 1 hour prior to game time. The game length varies by age group and is appropriate for that age group.

Game lengths by division are as follow:

  • 5u - 55 Minutes
  • 6u - 55 Minutes
  • 7u/8u - 85 Minutes
  • 9u/10u - 85 Minutes
  • 11u/12u - 85 Minutes
  • 13u/14u - 100 Minutes
  • 18u - 115 Minutes

Forsyth County Parks and Recreation department sets and manages the game schedules. Coaches receive the game schedules at the county coaches meeting mid-March. SSAA is unable to provide the game schedule before this date. Please monitor the calendar on the home page for important dates that are upcoming at any point during the season.

How To Get Involved As A Coach Are you interested in getting involved as coach? Are you hesitant because you haven’t coached a team before? We have you covered! All you need is a positive attitude, desire to influence youth, and passion for the game. Sharon Springs will provide the rest. We offer coaching clinics at the start of every season. They will show you how to run a practice, provide you sample practice plans, and teach you many drills to build fundamentals in your players.  If you are interested in volunteering as a head or assistant coach, please complete the coaches' application and background check found under For Coaches.

Majors/Minors

Sharon Springs' Majors/Minors is a component of the Spring Rec League and is available for all 7U-10U players. Our mission in majors/minors is to build an alternative to travel ball by offering a competitive brand of baseball with less time and financial commitment while still having a fun environment for all levels of players at Sharon Springs.

All-Star

Sunday Select is the All-Star selection process at Sharon Springs. Players with the highest evaluation scores and head coach referred players attend Sharon Springs Sunday Select practices on Sunday afternoons at the end of February through March. Upon conclusion of the 6-week process, all-star (and potentially development) teams are selected.

Once teams are selected All-Stars practice each Sunday in April and May, two times a week in June and enter competitive weekend tournaments from the end of the May through June.  All-Star teams may play teams ranging from metro-Atlanta to the State of Georgia or even nationally depending upon team success.  All-Star teams may also play in travel tournaments during the All-Star season.

Sharon Springs Academy Travel

Sharon Springs Academy Travel Teams are formed in July of each year and are instructed by coaches of Sharon Springs Academy.  Sharon Springs Academy Travel Teams typically are formed starting at 9u.  Tryouts are held in both June and July for open spots, with an extremely competitive selection process.

Academy Travel Teams require significant monetary and time commitments from players who are challenged by Academy Coaches in the Fall and Winter.  Travel Teams play tournaments from March through June.

Players from two Sharon Springs Academy 12u Travel Teams may have an opportunity to spend a week in Cooperstown playing baseball and experiencing memories that will last a lifetime!
